EXHIBITOR WORKSHOP:
Laboratory Productivity: A Guide to the Future
An Evening Reception with Scientific Displays & Keynote Address
Keynote Presenter: Laurie Beth Anderson, Fitzco, Inc. and case study from Washington State Patrol Toxicology Laboratory
Join Agilent’s Tuesday evening reception and be greeted with a wealth of science, face to face discussions with product managers and senior application chemists and a keynote presentation. There will also be raffles for iPods, Bose Headsets and food and beverages to enjoy.
Presentation Abstract:
Using the business tools of process maps to define strengths and identify areas for growth and improvement, Laboratory Management can better envision “possibilities for re-design” and communicate their vision to those around them. Detailed process mapping will clarify actions that are often invisible to those who are embedded in the day-to-day routines of a laboratory setting, and who are engaged in high-volume work that is urgent in nature. Process gaps that are “felt” by laboratory personnel can be illuminated, along with the areas where change can be most easily made with the highest returns. Issues of centralization, higher throughput, and consistency of field programs can be areas of special emphasis when designing new and more efficient laboratory systems.
This presentation will focus on a day of “Process Mapping” spent with the Washington State Patrol Toxicology Laboratory. This case study provides an example of how management can begin to work with corporate process mapping tools in order to yield new ways to document and analyze a laboratory’s potential.
