What kind of clothing is best for Seattle in August?

Seattle has a fairly moderate climate, but in the heart of summer it can get into temperatures in the 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit range. Often it is warm and sunny during the day and cools off at night. It is good to pack some light, warm clothes for the evenings and for air conditioned rooms. Please be sure to bring one jacket/sweatshirt for the cooler, possibly rainy days.

Dress Code:

The dress code for the scientific meeting and receptions is business casual (e.g., slacks, skirts, polo shirts, shirt and tie, or open necked shirts/blouses). Jackets/sport coats are optional and may be worn for comfort, although typically the weather at this time of year does not require them. Jeans, shorts etc, are not considered appropriate wear for these sessions. The welcome reception being held at the Seattle Art Museum about a twelve minute walk from the hotel, so wear appropriate footwear.

The dress code for the conference banquet (Wednesday evening) is business professional/formal (e.g., suit, coat, jacket and tie, cocktail wear, evening wear). Traditionally, some of our ICADTS and TIAFT delegates choose to wear their national dress for this evening event!

The dress code for the conference tours and after-hours events is casual (slacks, jeans, shorts, etc). Dress for comfort

Safety and getting around:

The downtown Seattle area around the hotel is in the heart of the business, entertainment and shopping district. The downtown area is very safe, and many attractions and sightseeing are within walking distance. There are footpaths and stairs from the shopping district down to the waterfront area for additional sightseeing and dining options. Local buses can be taken to more distant destinations, and a monorail from near the hotel will take you out to the Seattle Center and Space Needle.  Sunset is around 8:30pm, and the area around the hotel stays busy after dusk.

Most visitors will arrive at Seattle Tacoma International Airport, which is about 14 miles from the Downtown Seattle Area, and the Seattle Sheraton Hotel. Check out the current hotel information >>

When arriving at Seattle Tacoma International Airport, and collecting your luggage, proceed up one level to the sky bridges on the fourth floor, and cross into the Parking garage. Take the escalator down one level where you will find taxis, shuttle buses, and limousine service.
