Northwest Wineries
Situated on the same latitude as the French wine country, Washington State has a growing wine industry that is winning prestigious awards throughout the world.
Your wine experience will begin at Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery. Located on 87 acres of arboretum-like grounds, Chateau Ste. Michelle is Washington's oldest winery, taking its place among the classic wineries of the world. Enjoy a tour that allows a romantic yet technologically accurate view of the art and science of wine-making, followed by wine tasting. After the tour and wine tasting, you will enjoy strolling the grounds and visiting the extensive wine and accessory shop.
You will then continue your wine excursion at nearby Silver Lake Winery. Silver Lake crushed its first vintage in the fall of 1989. In the past fourteen years, the winery has grown from 2,000 cases to more than 25,000 cases of hand crafted wine. Although still considered small, it has grown to be the 7th largest winery in Washington State. Silver Lake Winery began as the outgrowth of the passion for fine wines shared by three professors at the University of Washington. Their experiments with home winemaking and a lifetime of collecting exceptional wine eventually blossomed into what is now Silver Lake Winery. The wines produced have a broad distribution in the Pacific Northwest and can be found in virtually all major grocery stores and retail outlets and in many fine restaurants.
The last winery visited will be Woodhouse Family Cellars. This 5-year-old family owned Woodinville winery is growing so rapidly it can't keep its’ wine varieties on store shelves! The owners’, Bijal and Sinead Shah’s passion and close relationship to wines was their inspiration to become winemakers. You will learn more about the winery’s Kennedy Shah, Darighe, Dussek Family Cellars and Maghie Cellars wines while there. The Shah’s created the Kennedy Shah label to recognize and support the strength of local charity organizations that nurture and inspire women and children.
